Postdoc in Secret Intelligence

Duties

Duties include research and some teaching in Political Science with a particular focus on Secret Intelligence. We are interested in different approaches and theoretical perspectives in the area of intelligence studies. The duties include own research, development, organizing and implementing the department’s research activities in the area, as well as disseminating the results at conferences and in publications.

The employment includes 80% research and 20% teaching, and we would like you to participate in and develop courses within intelligence studies. 

Qualifications

For employment as a postdoctoral fellow, you must have a doctorate, or a foreign degree deemed equivalent to a doctorate, in Political Science or a suitable related field.

The degree must have been completed no more than three years before the end of the application period. If there are special reasons, the degree may be older than three years. Special reasons include leave due to illness, parental leave, etc.

It is a requirement that the applicant has the personal qualities needed to fulfil the employment. All employees are expected to cooperate and treat colleagues and students with respect, take responsibility for the organization and their own duties, and contribute to a good working environment.

Assessment criteria

It is desirable that the candidate has:

• Documented scientific skills in Political Science or a related discipline with a focus on Secret Intelligence.
• Publications in international journals within intelligence studies, for example Intelligence and National Security or International Journal of Intelligence and CounterIntelligence.
• Documented teaching skills in the subject of Political Science or a related discipline.

Employment

The position is a fixed-term position according to the central agreement on fixed-term employment as a postdoc. The employment is limited to two years with the possibility of a further one-year extension. The scope is 100% full time. Start date is 1 June 2025.

An employment at the Swedish Defence University may require a security clearance for placement in a security class, which includes a security interview and, in some cases, a background check by the Swedish Security Service.

The Swedish Defence University will be operating in a state of war, which means that you should be prepared to be deployed to the institution during times of conflict. If you are already deployed in your current position at an agency and your expertise is needed in the Swedish Defence University's war organization, negotiations will take place between the relevant agency and the Swedish Defence University to determine your placement.
